Good catch

By Rabbit - Posted on 23 April 2008

I have been trying to update my blogs every Mondays but yesterday I was so exhausted when I came from work that I just collapsed to bed with half eaten sandwich in my mouth. I started my working day as usual, by clearing the clients' cages and giving them fresh food and water as appropriate. This involves series of physical activities and often I have to crawl to the cages myself to catch resistant client for the morning make over. After I had all cages nice and clean and the clients fed, the phone started to ring. And it kept on ringing all day. I had people coming to the reception for the medication orders and my skills were tested to the limit when I was trying to count 120 tiny Furosemide pills whilst giving advices on the phone and trying to show with my gestures for the other people awaiting to be served, that I will be with them "in a mo". When the Vet came to start the consultation, I continued to be busy registering the people, accepting their payments and trying to resuscitate them when they saw the total amounts of costs in their bills. After the consultation we had a cup of coffee- which I drank while doing the accounts, mopping the floor and answering to the phone. I don't think I had noticed if I had accidentally drank dish water. Vet asked me to get an urine sample from a little dog, so I took it for a walk with our student. She did the dog walking, I followed after with a bowl in my hand- the aim being to catch the urine there. The little dog started peeing straight away and I was just way too slow. I urged the student to find an "attractive looking pole", in a hope to have the dog to lift his leg again. I was feeling slightly ridiculous walking after the dog bent down and trying to squat and catch every time the dog lifted his leg promisingly. Several street lamp and fence corner attempts later I finally caught a tiny drop in my bowl. I felt like a hero. But I didn't have time to bask in a glory- it was still before the lunch time, so many more hours of all sorts of activities was lurking ahead. I ran to the bank to sort out the cheques and cycled home for a quick lunch. Had I been doing some swimming, too, it would have been a proper triathlon. By the end of the day I had managed to have few sips from the coffee- and I had optimistically made myself cup of tea, which I never had the time to drink. On a positive note- I don't need to spend any money for the Gym!
